Where to Stay for Shanghai Trade Shows: NECC, SNIEC and the World Expo Area

Accommodation area choices for NECC, SNIEC and SWEECC visitors in Shanghai, showing Hongqiao, Longyang-Huamu and World Expo areas.

For an exhibition trip, the hotel rate is only one part of the real cost of staying somewhere.

Your daily experience also depends on:

  • how long it takes to reach the venue;
  • how many transfers you make;
  • how easy it is to reach the airport or high-speed rail;
  • whether you also have meetings elsewhere in Shanghai.

Instead of ranking hotels, this guide starts with the structure of your itinerary.

⚠️ AREA NAMES CAN BE MISLEADING

When this guide says around Huamu Road Station or around Longyang Road Station, it means the hotel area around those transport stations — not the full roads of the same names.

What You Can Find Here

NECC: Venue Area or Hongqiao Hub

Near NECC

More suitable when you:

  • attend for several consecutive days;
  • expect early starts and late finishes;
  • want to minimise daily commuting.

Around the Hongqiao transport hub

More suitable when you:

  • will use high-speed rail;
  • have domestic flights;
  • want easier onward travel to other Chinese cities.

If NECC is the main purpose of your Shanghai trip, staying close can save time. If the exhibition is one stop in a multi-city business itinerary, the Hongqiao hub can be more useful.

For transport details, see how to get to NECC Shanghai.

SNIEC: Huamu Road Station or Longyang Road Station

Around Huamu Road Station

The main advantage is direct access to the venue.

Useful for:

  • multi-day SNIEC events;
  • reducing transfers;
  • keeping your daily exhibition commute short.

Around Longyang Road Station

The main advantage is transport flexibility.

Useful for:

  • travelling to and from Pudong Airport;
  • moving around other parts of Shanghai;
  • using Metro Lines 2 and 7 or the Maglev.

This is not a question of which district is “better.” It is a choice between being closer to the venue and having more transport connections.

For station and airport access, see how to get to SNIEC Shanghai.

SWEECC: Staying Around the Expo Area

If most of your trip is centred on SWEECC, you can compare hotels in:

  • the Expo area;
  • locations along Metro Line 8 or Line 13;
  • areas with convenient access to China Art Museum Station or Shibo Avenue Station.

If your evenings are mainly in central Shanghai, it can make sense to balance the exhibition commute with your after-show schedule rather than simply choosing the closest hotel.

For metro, entrance and airport guidance, see how to get to Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center.

If You Also Have Meetings in Central Shanghai

Many international business travellers combine exhibitions with:

  • client meetings;
  • supplier visits;
  • dinners;
  • business tours.

A practical way to choose accommodation is to map the places you must reach most often.

Exhibition first

Stay closer to the venue.

Meetings first

Choose a metro corridor that balances the exhibition with your main meeting area.

Multi-city travel first

Stay closer to Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station or another useful transport hub.

A simple method

Write down the three places that matter most:

  1. exhibition venue;
  2. airport or railway station;
  3. main business-meeting area.

The location that appears most often in your schedule should carry more weight in your hotel decision.

How to Treat Hotel Shuttle Claims

ℹ️ EVENT-SPECIFIC SERVICE

Some hotels may run temporary exhibition shuttles during major events. Do not assume a shuttle is a permanent hotel feature just because it appeared during a previous show.

These services can depend on:

  • the specific show;
  • the dates;
  • visitor demand;
  • the hotel’s current arrangements.

Do not treat “trade-show shuttle” as a permanent hotel feature.

Before booking, confirm:

  • operating dates;
  • pick-up point;
  • whether advance booking is required;
  • whether the service is restricted to certain guests.

Accommodation Registration for Foreign Visitors

Staying at a hotel

Hotels complete the required accommodation registration for foreign guests. Bring a valid passport and any other documents requested at check-in.

Staying somewhere other than a hotel

⚠️ OFFICIAL REQUIREMENT FOR NON-HOTEL STAYS

If you stay in an apartment, a friend’s home, your own residence or another non-hotel property, the accommodation must be registered within 24 hours of arrival.

From September 21, 2026, China’s National Immigration Administration expanded online non-hotel accommodation registration nationwide.

Online channels include:

  • the National Immigration Administration government-service platform;
  • the NIA 12367 app;
  • the NIA 12367 WeChat mini-program;
  • the relevant Alipay mini-program.

Offline public-security registration channels remain available.

If online registration does not work for your situation, follow the official instructions for the offline process.

Before Publication

Hotel prices, room availability, cancellation terms and shuttle services are dynamic and should not be treated as permanent commitments. Recheck accommodation-registration rules if publication is substantially delayed.
